Welcome to “Hearing News”

I am looking forward to updating my blog with news and events about hearing health and offer the latest information for improving your hearing. As an audiologist for over 13 years, I have had great success with patients of all ages. With my own private practice, I can take the best of what I know and offer affordable choices for patients. I have patients ranging in age from six years old to 102 years young! These patients, and everyone in between, know the importance of communication, and that staying connected to our world is vital to our overall health and happiness. I take my responsibility serving the community of West Roxbury and surrounding communities very seriously. This is my hometown! I am working on a grant to provide instruments to patients that cannot afford them. I also strongly believe in service above self, and as a member of the local chapter of Rotary, I provide hearing care in the community to several local places, including Rose’s Bounty and through my colleagues at Ethos. At Rose's Bounty Food Pantry on July 17th

When I first started my master’s work in Audiology at San Francisco State University, the majority of programming for hearing aids was completed using a screwdriver. Most instruments were analog, adjusted via screwdriver, and making everything louder using low cut and high cut filters. Now, everything is digital, making it a much more comfortable sound for patients. Hearing aids today have also become smaller and more cosmetically appealing as well. Although I believe patients should wear instruments regardless of the way they look, I want my patients to be pleased with the cosmetics and feel confident when wearing their aids.

My mission is to educate people about the importance of maintaining their hearing health. I think about some of the children and adults I see (and hear) on the bus or the trains, with the volume of their listening devices at levels that I can hear from several seats away. Our hearing can be damaged at any age, and often the results of a lifetime of exposure to noises in our world exacerbate problems with our hearing later in life. I invite anyone with concerns about their hearing health to come in for a complementary hearing screening. I highly encourage anyone at about age 50 or older to come in for a complementary baseline hearing screening, so that hearing can be a part of your overall health. Treatment for hearing loss is most successful when you start with amplification as your hearing worsens. Waiting until your hearing “is bad enough” often results in years of deprivation to the auditory system that makes adjusting to hearing aids more difficult. The adage “if you don’t use it, you lose it” rings true in Audiology.

I look forward to growing my practice here in West Roxbury. I hope to partner with my community for many years with all your hearing health needs.
